TRADITION AND RENOVATION IN THE STUDY OF MEDIEVAL ENGLISH
The Spanish Society for Medieval English Language and Literature (SELIM) encourages and promotes the study of the written records and literary works of medieval England dated between the seventh and the fifteenth century.
SELIM organises annual international conferences that gather linguists, literary critics, and medievalists in general, around specialised panel sessions and keynote lectures. The journal of the Society, SELIM (ISSN 1132-631X), is a recognised academic publication that is listed in international reference indexes. The Society also supports financially the participation of predoctoral researchers and, throughout the country, funds courses and academic events that fall within the area of the society's interests.
The majority of SELIM members teach English Historical Linguistics, Medieval English Literature, or both. Their research in the Old English and the Middle English periods combines the philological tradition with state-of-the-art theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches, as we believe that only a delicate balance between tradition and renovation can bring perspectives and insights from related branches of the Humanities and ultimately shed light on this fascinating part of European history and culture.
While most SELIM members are affiliated with Spanish universities, the last years have seen the progressive incorporation into the Society of colleagues from European and American universities, which has extended the reach of our activities. If you are not a member of SELIM yet, we gladly invite you to join us, contribute to the Society's goals and share the national and international networking and friendship-building opportunities it fosters.

Miguel Gomes Gargamala, new member of the SELIM Board
SELIM celebrates the arrival of Miguel Gomes Gargamala on the Board. A Senior Lecturer at the University of Sunderland, Miguel has been a committed member of the Society for 15 years now, contributing decisively to the field of Old English poetry and translation. He will be continuing the superb work his predecessor, María José Esteve Ramos, did with student outreach and support. Huge thanks, María José, and welcome, Miguel!
