Lecture by Rafael J. Pascual at Granada Penitentiary Centre

The lecture took place on 11 November 2025 at Granada Penitentiary Centre, in Albolote, through the Prison Ministry of the Archdiocese. Its title was “Hope in the Darkness: The Christian Message of Old English Poetry”, with particular attention to The Wanderer and Boethian philosophy. Around forty or fifty male and female inmates from various units attended voluntarily, participating actively and showing great interest. So much so, in fact, that they will write a report for the prison’s magazine, and even mentioned the possibility of starting an activity related to Old English within their theatre group.

Rafael J. Pascual highlights the following lesson learned from the experience: wherever human dignity is under threat, Humanities prove more necessary and more valuable than ever.
