MEPRES 2026: Medieval English Predoctoral Research Seminar

On 11 June 2026, the University of Granada hosted the first Medieval English Predoctoral Research Seminar (MEPRES 2026), organised by Dr Rafael J. Pascual. Sponsored by SELIM, the University of Granada, the University of Oxford, and the HUM-383 Research Group, the seminar was designed to give MA students enrolled in the course English Historical Sociolinguistics the opportunity to present their research in the format of an academic conference paper. The event also featured presentations by an undergraduate student and a doctoral researcher.

The programme covered a wide range of topics, including Middle English dialectology and etymology, Chaucer's language and society, historical grammar, translation, and cinematic remediation. The seminar was very well attended and generated lively discussion after every paper, providing participants with valuable experience in presenting and discussing their research in a friendly yet academically rigorous environment. It was an excellent opportunity to prepare students for future doctoral work and participation in academic conferences.
